Best affiliate online programs for savvy beginners

The best affiliate online programs for beginners are programs that are stable, have proven training and support and offer you the opportunity to promote them with confidence for a fair commission.

What to look for in the best affiliate online programs

  1. The affiliate program you choose must have a solid track record and be likely to stick around for a long time to come
  2. The program must set your expectations realistically and not make claims that can’t be backed up
  3. The program should offer industry-leading training that helps you avoid getting off on the wrong foot
  4. Support must be easily and quickly accessible should you have a question or get stuck
  5. You should look for commissions of at least 30% when you promote the program
  6. Your commissions should be recurring and come in every month like clockwork

In this article, I’ll show you how to go about selecting the best affiliate marketing programs available.

I’ll explain what to look for and what to avoid when deciding on where you’re going to invest your time and effort.

By the end of the article, you’ll have a good understanding of how to make sure you don’t go off in the wrong direction and end up frustrated, disappointed and broke.

The program you choose needs to have earned its chops

There are thousands of affiliate programs you can choose to join and getting on board with the right programs can be a minefield for beginners.

As with anything, there are the good and the bad, but if you’re not sure what you’re looking for, they can all seem shiny and promising, especially the programs that promise you quick and easy income. There’s the first clue right there.

You should be wary of affiliate programs that make unrealistic claims of overnight riches and 6 or 7 figures a year with 4 hours work a week. If only it were that quick and easy.

You need to understand that when you get involved in affiliate marketing, you’re setting up a real business just as you would with an offline, brick and mortar business.

You wouldn’t set up a brand-new restaurant and expect to be killing it after a few weeks, that would be unrealistic. You would most likely have a business plan in place that covered 3-5 years with turnover, profit, and cash flow projections all calculated and in place.

So, why would you get started online and believe you can be rich in a few short weeks?

I’m not saying you CAN’T make good money with the best affiliate online programs available to you, you can and it can be a lot of money, but don’t start off with unreasonable expectations and you won’t end up disappointed when you don’t buy your first Lambo a few weeks in.

Approach your new business sensibly, be prepared to work hard and consistently and you’ll see real results and income you can rely on for months and years to come.

You’d be crazy to step inside a boxing ring without training, right?

Running an affiliate business online can be a bit of a fight – no one said it was going to be easy.

As with a boxing match, you’ll only win if you train hard, get in shape and out think your opponent tactically. In the case of affiliate marketing, having the right training makes the difference between success and dismal failure – I’ve rarely seen anything that doesn’t back that statement up.

So, the affiliate program you choose must have the best training possible, but it’s important to understand what cutting edge training really looks like.

Any affiliate product launched these days comes with a certain amount of training. However, that generally consists of a few videos, maybe a .pdf to download and a FAQ (frequently asked questions) section. Sometimes the FAQ can be remarkably thin – I’ve seen them with as few as 6 Q and A’s and that’s not really helping anyone as far as I’m concerned.

No, the training you’re looking for needs to be in depth and over many modules that take care of everything you need to know from getting started with your online business to advanced topics like how to promote and scale your business to make the real money that it’s entirely possible to make.

One way to get the very best one-on-one training is to get yourself a mentor, and I can’t think of a better way to go about getting the guidance you need. But, there’s a problem.

One-on-one personal mentoring doesn’t come cheap.

You’re usually looking at $1000’s and let’s be realistic for a moment – not everyone can afford to splash out that kind of cash, especially when you’re just starting out.

Not only that, choosing the right mentor, even if you can afford the cost, is tricky and you could end up losing a whole wad of cash.

That happened to me when I chose who I thought was a top-notch mentor only to be sadly disappointed and pour $5,000 down the toilet. Please don’t make the same mistake I did.

Everyone needs help, and when you need it you need it fast

You’re going to get stuck from time to time as you build out your affiliate marketing business, there’s absolutely no question about it and it’s perfectly normal.

Getting stuck is not the problem – getting the information and help you need to get yourself out of a fix quickly often is.

So, you should never underestimate the importance of a good support system. I don’t know about you, but when I have a serious problem, I don’t want to sit on my hands for 2 days waiting for the solution. It’s frustrating and it slows down and even kills your progress.

That’s why the best affiliate online programs offer lightning fast support that gets you unstuck and moving forward again in the shortest time possible

But think about this.

One of the best types of support you can get is community support. If you can tap into a vibrant community of like-minded entrepreneurs who are experiencing exactly the same issues as you, you’re golden.

You can be sure whatever it is you have a problem with, you won’t be the first to have trodden that path. Often, the best way to solve a problem is to have a discussion with a group of your peers. This can yield far more in-depth and creative solutions than talking with a single support person.

It’s critical the level of support you receive from your chosen program is outstanding, accept nothing less. Take community support seriously and factor it into your thinking – you’re all in the same boat and the camaraderie of a community could be just what you need to stay inspired!

You need to get paid well for your efforts

So far, we’ve covered the quality of the affiliate marketing program you choose, the training and the support, let’s get into the dollars and cents that come from promoting your chosen program

Here I have a couple of rules I suggest you stick to.

COMMISSION RATE – I suggest you don’t consider affiliate programs that pay less than 30% commission. If you think about it, you do all the hard work of finding a customer for a vendor so you should be rewarded accordingly. Less than 30% commission is just not worth it. I don’t promote Amazon products – the commission can be as low as 3% – sorry, not interested.

REPEAT COMMISSIONS – Always look for repeat monthly commission programs. Some examples would be web hosting, autoresponders, and certain software. It just makes sense. Getting a new customer takes a lot of time and effort, what a pleasure to wake up to a paycheck from work you did months ago. This is VERY important when starting out, there is only one exception which is…

PROGRAMS THAT PAY BIG INITIAL PAYMENTS – there are certain affiliate programs that pay out very substantial initial payments. I’ve seen certain web hosting companies pay up to 200% commission for getting a new sign up, that can be as much as $200 in some instances. In this case, you might want to suspend the repeat commission rule, but for anything else regular, monthly income comes out top.
